Hello all!!! So Friday I left the Hill (NC) and headed towards home (FL). I love driving at night but after a few hours the old highway hypnosis sets in and I seem to arrive in locations without even realizing it. Sometimes when I drive long distances I can lose whole hours in daydreaming or just thinking and yet my car still manages to stay on the road. It's insane, I should probably invest in better music to keep me focused on the drive next time. Any who.
So I stopped in Beaufort, SC for the night to visit my sister and her family. My nieces are growing up so fast. I took a quick nap while I did some laundry and then headed back out again.
I stopped in Deland on my way down for gas and a snack and hand a funny conversation with an older gentleman about eating late at night and decided to hit up the Sonic that was across the Street. Izzy has got me hooked on breakfast burritos and Sonic's burrito did not disappoint. Then I headed back out again and eventually arrived at home safe and sound.
I stayed home just long enough to pack everything I owned up into boxed, because my mom is moving to SC, and then headed back up to NC to spend the New Year with Izzy. It was great to get to spend some time with my family and friends for a little while since I hadn't seen them in ages and won't see them for at least 5 more months. So all in all it was a long journey home but it was quite the adventure.
Oh and as for a update on all things Cuba related. My visa, plane tickets, and OFAC license all arrived before Christmas. YAY!!!! So I am all set document wise. I fly out the 17th of January. CUBA HERE I COME!!!

Blog the first!
Hello my friends! So this will be the first of many blogs to keep you up to date with all things Casey. As many of you already know I will be studying abroad in Havana, Cuba from Jan. 17-May 16, 2009. I am so excited and scared and a thousand other feelings all at the same time. For me this is a dream come true and I am happy to be able to share my journey with anyone who may be interested.
So as of now I have my passport and my liscense from OFAC (office of foriegn assets control- who gives you permission to go to Cuba) and am still waiting on my Visa from Cuba and my plane ticket from Nassua to Havana. Everything is getting more real everyday. I just got my roommate assignment. Her name is Kassie and from the few times I have met her she seems great. So hopefully that goes well.
I have a lot to do before I leave:
1. Sorting out how to pay the bills while gone
2. Changing my address info
3. packing
4. reading and researching on what I want to do while in Cuba in my free time
5. taxes/fasfa
6. Converting currency
and more that I can't think of just now.
I will miss all of you so much while I am gone. I won't be able to call any of you on my cell or pay phones(but I am looking into how skype works) because it is expensive and my cell won't work in Cuba due to embargo. However I will be updating my blog and checking my email as often as possible. So if you need my email please give me a call or facebook me or whatever and I will get it to you. I am going to try and make my self as available to you as possible but please be patient with me because internet in Cuba is hit or miss so it might take me a while to get back to you but I WILL GET BACK TO YOU. Promise!
I want to know you all are doing well and what is going on with you and in the states or on campus so keep me up to date on the goings on and the gossip (lol). Just add a comment or send me a message.
Ok well I guess that is all for now. I will post again soon. Much love as always.
