In a few hours...

Ok so countdown to Cuba. The past few days have been a circus. Constant running around to do last minute things and pick up forgotten items. I have finished packing and weighed in all my bags. The suitcase is 40 pounds and my carry-on is like 20 (its all books and my laptop). I didn't want to bring so much but many things cannot be purchased in Cuba and a lot of it I plan to leave there. So it will only be a burden on the way over.

My flight leaves to Nassau in a few hours. I have to admit as excited as I am my nerves are really starting to get to me. I don't know what I am worried about. I just want to make sure I really make the most of my time there. Who knows when I will ever get a chance to come back.

I am going to miss you guys terribly. I will take loads of pictures though. I am not really sure what I want to accomplish while I am there or where I want to go. I have a few places in mind but I think that I am going to just wing it. I wish I had the time to bike all over the island. There is so much I want to see. I want to learn something new and do things I wouldn't get the chance to do here. I don't know.

If you guys have any recommendations please feel free to let me know. Well I will write again when I get settled in Havana.

Hasta Luego!

Reflections on 2008 and current updates

What a year it was, I am utterly looking forward to the New Year. What can I say about 2008? Well I made a lot of really great friends, met a lot of new people, lost some friends, added new members to my family, watched a historical election play out, and finished my first year at UNC. It has been a very busy year and I am glad things are beginning to finally slow down a little even if it is only for a short time.

For the past week I have been in NC with Izzy and it has been great. For the first time in what seems like a year I have been able to relax and enjoy myself. I have been able to sleep in and read books for fun again. Its amazing. I love that I get to spend time with Izzy before I go to Cuba. He took off this whole week and we just relaxed everyday together. Izzy and Kyle had a New Year's party at their house and it was really fun. (Pictures will be going up on facebook soon). I think everybody had a good time.

Anywho, I am just sitting around trying to sort out what I should pack to take with me to Cuba and what else I should be doing before I go. I already figured out my bills and am making arrangements for my car and such.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and a great New year. I will be updating you all again soon. Miss you and much love.
